NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It was co-created by Richard Bandler & John La Valle
NLP is:
- Neuro – your thoughts and mental processes
- Linguistic – the language you use (internally and externally)
- Programming – the patterns you run automatically, and how to change them.
Neuro‑Linguistic Programming is a set of coaching and therapeutic techniques focused on how language, thoughts, and behaviour interact. It’s often used in contexts like:
- Individual and Couples Counselling, Coaching and personal development
- Changing limiting beliefs and repeating patterns
- Working with emotions, habits, and relationships
- Couple and group workshops, using communication techniques, guided visualisation programs.
NLP is helpful to:
- release emotional blocks and change beliefs
- for personal healing on a spiritual, physical and metaphysical levels
- change attitudes and perspectives about any aspect of life to change and improve life experiences.
Richard Bandler says that “NLP is an attitude and a methodology, not the trail of techniques it leaves behind.”
- NLP is an attitude
- NLP is a methodology
- NLP has evolved as an innovative technology.
Neuro = neurological or nervous system which receives experiences and processes them through the five senses.
Linguistics = language and non verbal communication systems through which neural representations are coded, ordered and given meaning
Programming = the ability to organise our communication and neurological systems to achieve specific desired goals and results.
